About the Berlin Marathon
The first Berlin Marathon was held in 1974 on the edge of the Grunewald forest, with just a few hundred finishers. After German reunification, the course moved through both halves of the city, and the race has grown into one of the largest marathons in the world.
Why Berlin is so fast
Berlin's course is flat, has few sharp turns, and usually enjoys cool autumn weather, a perfect combination for fast times. Multiple men's and women's world records have been set here, including Eliud Kipchoge's 2:01:09 in 2022.
The final stretch takes runners through the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most memorable finishes in the sport.
